The landscape of business events has changed, with virtual and hybrid events becoming a permanent segment of the industry. While this has spelled loss of business in the short term, there are new opportunities that have risen created by the gaps in services and product offerings. What are some ways to stay relevant in this new landscape - is a complete pivot necessary or would a more intentional approach to diversification work?

By Boonsiri Somchit,
Chief Conceptualist at Xtrategize Technologies and the best-selling author of "When the Chicken Dies, Everyone Cries" Why look to the west when we can learn and be inspired by so much even in our very own backyard? These are stories from the very heart of the kampung. These are stories of how my growing up years, my rag-tag gang of friends, the pakcik-pakcik and makcik-makcik plus a cockroach and a chicken taught me about the value of authentic leadership, the importance of communication and collaboration and the power of adaptability and resilience. However, the most important lesson I learnt from that time was about the power of sekampung and this will be the magic that I would like to share with you from my own personal leadership journey, from the kampung to corporate to kuli.

Covid-19 has changed the meetings industry landscape, and also how we think about our future. If Crisis also means Opportunities, our Business Events Sarawak colleagues have demonstrated that this is the time to play big. Interestingly, Sarawak’s focus on adding value through Legacy is not a knee-jerk reaction to the pandemic but a well thought out journey to utilize business events as the legacy impact driver. This conversation between Jane Vong Holmes (GainingEdge) and Amelia Roziman (Business Events Sarawak) will redefine the full meaning “Value”.

For its last two congressess, ICCA introduced the multi-hub hybrid event format to circumnavigate the restrictions posed by the pandemic. As the popularity of multi-hub hybrid events continues to grown, a group of ICCA members came together in late 2020 to form Hybrid City Alliance - a network of destinations and suppliers to better serve clients with solutions for multi-hub hybrid events. In this session, we explore the benefits of this trend for organisers, destinations and suppliers, and what impact this format of business events can have on delegates.
